About Me

Born in the North of England some 20-odd years ago I now live in London and work in Newbury. I studied Computer Science at Durham University concentrating on theory and alogorithm complexity and since Durham I have worked for the Telecoms industry in design and capacity planning.

I like to spend some of my spare time playing with my camera - I am a big photography fan, hence the front page of this website. I also enjoy reading, music and computer programming in a number of different languages (some of this code you can find in the projects section of my website).
About This Website

This page has existed in one form or another for quite a few years now. It started off as simple HTML hosted on the Yahoo! Geocities service (RIP), moved through other various free hosts who added server side functionality (ColdFusion and PHP) - before moving to richardjameskendall.com in 2001. The site has moved through various hosts including EasySpace and Compila and now resides on a server in my house which is connected via an ADSL line to the outside world.

This incarnation of the site is built with Perl, PHP, MySQL, HTML and CSS. The server is a Cobalt Networks Qube2 running NetBSD and Apache; it comes under attack with common frequency (here is a list of IP addresses responsible for failed login attempts). I am sure people would be unhappy if they worked out what they were trying to log in to!

See the world from my window! Have a look at my webcam.
